TOPIC SYNOPSIS

  • An effective way of an analysing, reporting on and successfully prosecuting the scourge of Ponzi schemes.
  • This will inter alia emphasise the importance of complete and easy to understand cash flow analyses.
  • Most of the presentation will be devoted to a recent Ponzi scheme that operated under the guise of a trucking business.
  • Keith and his team played an important role in achieving a custodial sentence in this matter.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER

  • After qualifying as a CA (SA) in 1987 Keith Flack gained 14 years’ experience in commerce and industry before joining the Scorpions in 2001 to pursue his passion of Forensic Accounting.
  • After the Scorpions demise in 2009, he joined the Hawks as a Forensic Accountant.
  • Keith has almost 19 years’ experience in Forensic Accounting.
  • He's also acting as Provincial Commander: Commercial Crime and Organised Crime in KZN.
  • He was a Brigadier in the Hawks prior to his resignation in March 2017.
  • He headed up a small but effective Forensic Accounting team that was instrumental in achieving a number of convictions.
  • Keith was the only Forensic Accountant in the entire SAPS.
  • He  also testified in the Durban High Court and Specialised Commercial Crime Court.
  • He is currently self-employed and provides Forensic Accounting services to  victims of criminal activity.


TOPIC OF PRESENTATION

Kidnappings trend in her  experience and the motive specifically where foreign syndicates are driven by ransoms for terrorist financing and Hawala payment System and counter-terrorism.


ABOUT THE SPEAKER

  • South African Police Lieutenant Colonel Budaarienarain - Coordinator Crime Intelligence Hostage Negotiations Group KwaZulu-Natal and Forensic Criminologist.

  • Enlisted in the South African Police Uniform Branch in 1989.

  • Attended various tactical courses throughout her Police career whilst stationed in a Tactical Unit.

  • Stationed at Crime Intelligence Hostage Negotiations Durban Group since 2005.

  • She has attended courses in Counter Terrorism as well as an Analyst  workshop presented by the  French Hostage Release Team RAID.

  • She has dealt with many hostage situations, kidnappings , suicide incidents and herself and members of her team are highly trained  to deal with the following :- Hostage situations- Air/Sea Hijackings- Kidnappings- Threatening suicides ยท       - Barricades – where suspects have barricaded themselves in buildings, structures or vehicles.

  • She holds he following qualifications:- National Diploma in Police Administration- BA Degree Majoring in Psychology, Criminology and Education- Honours Degree in Forensic Criminology
